Sergio Puerto is a doctoral student in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. At ILCI, Sergio is part of the Priority Setting research team where he studies how breeders and farmers can work together to make informed breeding decisions.

Before joining Cornell, he studied Economics and worked as a research assistant at La Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. For four years, Sergio participated in several academic projects in the field of agricultural economics,  including coffee, dairy, and artisanal gold production in Colombia, cocoa farming in Ecuador, and small-scale fishing in Mexico.

He is currently working in agricultural technology development and diffusion in low-income countries, focusing on supply-side constraints affecting the ability to breed programs to deliver varieties that meet farmers’ demand for new varieties.
