Bethany Econopouly

Associate Director for Biophysical and Computational Sciences
International Applied Genomics Lead

Bethany Econopouly is the International Applied Genomics Lead in the Buckler Lab at Cornell University. Her research focuses on applied genomics for plant breeding of underfunded crops alongside international partners. She divides her time among the Innovation Lab for Crop Improvement, RTB Breeding and the Cassava Pangenome Project.
Bethany has a background in wheat genetics and breeding in rainfed systems in the US Great Plains and in coastal Washington State. She holds a BS from UMass Amherst, MS from Colorado State University, and PhD from Washington State University. Previously, Bethany worked in grant and strategy development for international agricultural research at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. 
In April 2024 Bethany was named ILCI’s Associate Director for Biophysical and Computational Sciences.
