Bethany Econopouly

International Applied Genomics Lead

Bethany Econopouly is the International Applied Genomics Lead in the Buckler Lab at Cornell University. Her research focuses on applied genomics for plant breeding of underfunded crops alongside international partners. She splits her time between the Innovation Lab for Crop Improvement and the NextGen Cassava Breeding Project.
Bethany has a background in wheat genetics and breeding in rainfed systems in the US Great Plains and in coastal Washington State. She holds a BS from UMass Amherst, MS from Colorado State University, and PhD from Washington State University. Previously, Bethany worked in grant and strategy development for international agricultural research at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
